In 1978, Phillip Broderick acquired land in Basket Range, Adelaide Hills, where he planted a small vineyard with Bordeaux varieties in 1980, initiating wine production. By the mid-1980s, he met Mary, and their sons Louis and Sholto were born there in '92 and '95. In the early 2000s, they moved uphill to a neighboring property, expanding with a larger vineyard. Basket Range, characterized by steep terrain, historically cultivated apples, cherries, and other crops. Their 13.5-acre vineyard sits at approximately 450m elevation, featuring varied aspects and soils—loamy red and blue clay over sandstone, with schist, ironstone, and shale. They practice organic viticulture, producing all wines onsite.
