2022 Marco Lubiana, Chardonnay
This vintage, a blend from Huon's cobblestone and white clay soils and Derwent's red clay over chalk, marks a special milestone with Marco's fourth release. The 2022 Chardonnay, a blend of 40% Huon Valley and 60% Derwent Valley, showcases a powerful nose of lemon meringue, flint, oak spice, hazelnuts, and toast. Fermented in French oak barrels with 15% new oak, it underwent wild, slow fermentation with malolactic fermentation in Spring, aging on lees for 11 months. Bottled unfiltered in June 2023, its long, taut acid line is balanced by a rich, smooth texture, promising further improvement with age.

Marco Lubiana
The Lubiana family has a rich winemaking history dating back to the late 1800s in northwest Italy (now Croatia). After World War Two, Andrea Lubiana relocated from Istria to South Australia, where his son Mario took over winemaking. Steve Lubiana then moved to Tasmania in 1990, focusing on cool climate wines. After studying Oenology and Viticulture at the University of Adelaide and gaining experience at East End Cellars, Marco pursued an internship in Burgundy in 2019. Due to COVID-19, European travel paused, and he's since refined my skills at my family's Granton winery, now exporting to Singapore, Hong Kong, and England.
